I think it's only like 1" smaller. It's really not a big difference, still feels like a bus to me.

I don't think so. Most people just get an aftermarket wheel like a grant or a momo.

I'm using a grant wheel and I find it much better than stock without the cost of going to a momo (not quite as nice though).

I dont think so either. It's only an inch smaller (I think the stock '86 wheel is 15.5"). I'm going for a Grant wheel at 13.5" soon, that's probably your best bet

is it even really smaller in diameter?
i used to have the 87+ one and i remember seeing my friends 86 s/w looks about the same..just the 87 looks nicer with the leather and MR2 logo in the middle.

Yeah, those MK1 steering wheels are quite large at 15"+ and they're relatively deep dish too, didn't see much of a difference between my '86 and my '89. Grants are OK but I've got a $450 Momo Jet wheel in el perfecto shape for $300 with TOYOTA hub if anyone wants it.

i used to have a 11.5" wheel on my old mk1. it was bearable to turn with, but definitely tougher (esp running 205's). bigger problem was that it often got in the way of critical parts of the gauge cluster.

im using a 13" grant wheel now, and am quite happy with it for the most part. kind of wish that it was a bit further away from the turn signal/cruise stalk

I have used three different aftermarket wheels now (JDM toyota, Momo, TRD) and they are all really close to the turn signal, and when my highbeams are off, I cant turn properly. It really sucks. I am thinking of cutting and then fiberglassing my turn signal so that it is farther from the wheel.

I had the same problem with my Grant wheel 'till I pitched it. The Momo hub is the exact same distance from the dash as the stock steering wheel, the only hub I've seen that is.

When I get my Grant I'm gonna add the 1" spacer to it that they offer

I think that I'm gonna get a different wheel. I'm not a big fan of the one I have, always did want a momo race.

the old generic wheel i had on momo hub was close to stock distance wise from the turn signal also. you can also buy spacers, adjustable or fixed, to move the wheel out more

i'd take that grant spacer off your hands russ :D

I'm sure your not the only one! I still need to find myself another wheel, but there are more important tasks at hand.
