Macs Auto Electric in Victoria

Postby dRebel » Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:44 am

I'm searching for a higher amperage alternator to run a couple more lights, I don't really trust ebay for this sort of thing and an 80amp supra alt if it was enough would be pretty tight with the extra 40amp draw... I figured I might as well see what a shop would charge to make me one. I was hoping to get 100amps out of it, so I called Macs Auto Electric today and the guy said he can build me a 140amp alternator for $200. That's a lot more output than I was looking for, but it's also cheaper than I expected for double the amperage. He said it would have a 2 year warranty, has anyone used these guys before? seems like a good deal if he does quality work. just wanted to check as I have no experience with them nor have I heard of them before.
thanks!

I've never used them.....

I go to Brian Roberts Electric.......they have quite the stellar reputation for high quality work.

I've had a good experience with them a number of times over the years. Their rebuilt alternators have never let me down, although they may not be the cheapest in town.

Awesome news! I figured $200 seemed cheap for twice the amperage.? only other place I called said it's not possible to get more than factory amperage out of them reliably..? So I didn't want to pull the trigger until I checked with you guys ;)

with the jeeps if you jam the stuff in the smaller alternator to get more output, they can be prone to overheating (but this is idling down a trail) so I wouldnt be worried about it getting too hot where its located.
