MK2 Premium Stereo Problems!

Postby immorality » Mon Oct 12, 2009 2:01 pm

Why do people always butcher the wiring when installing a new head unit? This fool just cut the connector at the back of the OEM deck and ran a bunch of wire down to the DS amplifier and cut up the harness there too. In the end all that was accomplished was a working deck, but the subs don't work, and I suspect that is also why my antenna doesn't work. :Sniper: :Sniper: :Sniper: :Sniper: *end rant*

my MK2 came with no stereo, no deck, no working wires, no working speakers and a mess of cables behind every panel...

THanks, but the '94 uses a 15 pin plug instead of the early 14 pin.

Yep Russ, shit happens, that is why when I installed a new Sony head unit in my Mk II I took the time to research how to avoid this, went to the Scosche webpage and found out that they have a conncector that plugs into your radio harness and you have all the cables to connect to your new head without having to cut any wire. I was fortunate to do that cuz at the end I ended up going back the the OEM Toyota premium head and got a cable to plug my Ipod into the CD box connector and the problem was solved.

I wish it was that easy, but I'm still pulling out my hair trying to reconnect cut wires!

you should learn from me and use non-insulated butts and using shrink tubes. soldering in cars is just crazy

Soldering is pretty easy, and I've got loads of shrinkwrap.

I was lucky enough to have the plug, but unlucky because all the wires were cut so close to it :(

I've had to depin the connector and put everything back together. I thought I was done, but I may have mis-pinned something, because my switched power is on all the time :?
