My Project: 87 AW11 - MAP/DLI 4AGZE

Postby GTSSportCoupe » Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:48 pm

My Project of the last few years. It's been slow to come along thanks to major budget constraints (part of owning a house in $Victoria$). I've done all the work myself with the exception of machining and welding.

87 MR2 Black, Sunroof/Cruise original options, 2400lbs as is. Currently estimated at ~170whp..

Engine
- MAP/DLI Smallport AE92 4AGZE swap
- Dr. Tweak harness
- Technosquare tuned ECU (with Techtom daughter card) - a really sweet tune! Pulls hard right to redline.
- High flow intake w/ cone filter
- Iridium plugs gapped to 0.030"
- Mobil1 Synthetic 10W30
- Throttle Body and J pipe bored to 55mm (from 50mm)
- Custom 165mm Oversized Crank Pulley
- BMW SC tensioner pulley (allows big crank pulley)
- T3 175mm Oversized Crank Pulley (to be installed soon)
- New oil seals, timing belt, accessory belts, thermostat, etc. (freshen up)
- DSM Intercooler w/ custom alum piping, 6.5" SPAL fan, bottom mount
- ’93 MR2 Turbo Fuel pump
- Dakota Digital Tach converter
- Custom alternator bracket
- Speed-source poly-urethane engine mounts
- Magnecor 8mm DLI fit Ignition Leads
- Early 4age cams swapped in (240 duration instead of 232).
- Snow Performance Stage 2 Boost Cooler Methanol injection, 100ml/min pre SC

Suspension and Wheels
- High and Tight rear sway bar endlinks
- Suspension Techniques 'blue' front and rear sway bars
- Suspension Techniques 'green' springs
- Tokico HP strut inserts
- TRD strut mounts
- Full Prothane Polyurethane suspension bushings
- Work Emotion CR-Kai 15x7" ET44 4x100mm
- 205/50R15 Kumho Ecsta 711

Braking
- Power Slot front rotors
- PBR Deluxe Plus Organic brake pads all around
- Synthetic brake fluid
- Rebuilt calipers (have parts, need to do still)
- Russell Stainless braided brake lines (ordered, need to install)

Exhaust/Header
- Blacktop 20V header modified to clear starter, painted, heat wrapped
- SV3 Power 2.5" down pipe
- Magnaflow 2.5" cat converter
- Magnaflow 2.5" XL 3 Chamber Muffler
- Custom 2.5" exhaust piping

Transmission/Clutch
- C52 w/ Redline MT90
- F1 stage 2 clutch kit
- 212mm OEM AW11 flywheel

Interior
- MR2 supercharged gauge cluster
- New shift boot
- Pioneer CD player
- Alpine speakers x 4
- Aluminum pedals
- Aftermarket Steering wheel and hub

Body
- OEM aero-kit added: side skirts, rear visor
- H4 headlight conversion

Here are a few pics of the intercooler. Mounting is simply with zip-ties. It looks mickey-mouse but is actually carefully suspended so as not to rub on anything or cause any problems. A little unconventional I know. For the money spent, and my low-ish boost setup, it works super well though. The pipe coming out is always MUCH cooler than the one going in. I would have gone water to air if I could have afforded it at the time, but I had to meet a budget. I think this setup is much better than the OEM setup, as it pulls cool air from beneath the car instead of hot engine bay air. Intercooler: $30, Ebay pipe kit: $150, SPAL fan $50, Welding: free.
