Okay so I finally got to begin the actual engine work. I had no help today as I didn't need it and I was eager to get going. I'd done most of this part before since I did the valve cover gasket by myself before. Anywho, I drove to Lordco to get some Liquid Wrench and Natrile (I think that's what they are....) gloves. They were closed early for some silly reason so I went to Canadian Tire instead. Then I realised I forgot my keys for the MR2 so I drove back home to get them. By the time I got to Konrad's parents place the sun was going down so I was a little disappointed in that but oh well, that's what lights are for! Then I realised I forgot the guide that had been written for me in my post on doing the swap, and sighed heavily might I add...but plundered on anyhow.
I apologise for some pictures being poor quality, I had to use my BlackBerry as I...guess what? Forgot my camera too.
I began by removing the intake pipe from intercooler to throttle body. Oh but first, here are some pictures of the mess I made in my interior:
For some reason, my stock gauge lights no longer work. I took the aftermarket stick on ones off. I know the stock ones lit up before because I could see the greenish glow under the aftermarkets. I don't know what happened...I'm so bad with electrical stuff. I'll have to get someone else to check it out
.
So back to the engine...here's a picture before I started.
Here's a lovely bit of oil that had been blowing by in the intake...nice.
Got the pipes off and sprayed some Liquid Wrench on those beautiful bracket bolts that are stubborn as all heck:
Some more oil in the turbo to intercooler pipe:
Inside the throttle body:
Yay the pipes are off and now we can see the nice oily mess on the turbo even better!:
Here's the turbo a little closer, for those who didn't catch the "oily mess" bit:
Looking inside top of turbo:
A view from the other side:
Beautiful! The intake hose to the turbo is cracked! Spending more money FTW!
Oh the joys of a busted up turbo..I found oil in the intake hose BEFORE the turbo too!:
There's the source of my poor '2s pain:
A look inside the evil doer's throat:
I go to do myself a favor and take the airbox out to clean it up:
And what do I find underneath? A nice rusty piece of work that will need to be replaced. I think I'm learning NOT to lift things up and look underneath in my MR2...:
I thought this would be more difficult, seeing as the heat shield gets so hot and the bolts were rusty, but with a little bit of liquid wrench and minimal effort, it came off:
My poor '2s guts on the ground...time for a good cleaning though:
And now to be continued...she awaits the next few steps...the big ones:
Please comment and let me know what you think! This is quite time consuming doing these photo projects, I had no idea! But it's fun too...just let me know what you guys think. If I'm messing something up, or you notice something in there that looks fishy or about to break, PLEASE let me know. This is all a big learning process for me.
