you'll also need the ECM and harness out of a corolla, matrix or celica to match the motor... try buying a complete WRITE OFF car from ICBC... i'll see what i can scrounge up for you in terms of info...

last to my knowledge, the trannies were identical... i have not xref'd the numbers in my EPC at work, but last i recall (driving them) the matrix XRS 6 speed was waaaaaaay too tall because of the increased tire size... which leads me to believe they are the identical transmission...

i just need the engine and tranny for what i need. harness and ecu are non issues.

how would i get access to icbc auctions?

also, it should mentioned the matrix is 10hp less then the celica.

Would a junkyard charge way more for an engine than normal? (i've never inquired at a junkyard on that) If not there is a junkyard in Abbotsford in the peardonville area...might be import auto.... that had a few new celicas in there....could be the gts

those cars in junk yards likely suffered car fires, or serious collision and roll overs... kuz it takes a LOT for a car like that to get a "dismantle only" title and not just given a total loss... salvage title for a rebuilder to repair and re-insure...

assuming the engine is intact, manually cranks over and the compression is fine, i would think one from an roll over would be ok no?

I think the ones there must have been serious collision, I know they weren't fires as I was going to buy the seats from them for my MKI. If you are looking them up Eric, its the one on Queen Street.
