"91-1994 JDM 2nd generation 3SGTE (Turbo)= 197/200HP "

i believe that year got 225 hp :)

taken from the website

www.j-garage.com

1989.10 : The new MR-2(SW20) was introduced. The chassis's performance has been improved, and it was 200mm longer in length, 80mm longer in wheelbase and about 150kg more heavy in weight than the AW11 MR-2. The SW20 MR-2 is powered by the 3S-GTE 2.0 liter, L-4 DOHC turbocharged engine with intercooler,with 225 horsepower. And a 3S-GE L4 DOHC engine that produces 165 horsepower is also available. Front and rear brakes adopt ventilated disc brakes.

reading further in, the NA 89-92 made 165, the 93-97 made 180 and the final beams version made 200

Thanks guys, I am not saying anyone is wrong or right but I wouldn't trust J-garage. There are many websites out there that claim different HP ratings.

As an example...MKII NA has 135HP all over North America except for California as it has 130HP due to emissions. I also have read that 3SGE has 165hp and other sources say 170hp. Maybe they are both true for different parts of the world? Maybe the 3SGE in England had lower or higher hp? I know that Beams Redtop produced 197HP and Beams Greytop made 207hp but then again, we better double check.

I guess the best way to find out is to refer to our MR2 brochures :D!!! Who has MKII JDM brochures? I know Cameron and Dan have them. Maybe you guys can help us with finding the true HP rating of these engine? 3SGE and 3SGTE. THanks :D

I looked through my brochures but can't make out what year any of the cars are because there are no years on the covers. But what I can make out is... and it's different in different brochures...

3SGTE
225, 245, and what appears to be a 1997-1999 245 PS.

3S-GE
165, 180, 200 PS.

What does PS stand for?

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe I'll just bring my entire MR2 library with me to BC2008.

PS is the same as HP. It is used in England and Japan. It is basically the metric way of saying HP.. I believe it stands for "Power Supply"

1 PS = 75 kilopond·metre/second ~= 735.5 newton·m/s ~= 735.5 W ~= 0.7355 kW ~= 0.98632 hp (SAE)

LOL then does it mean I had it right?
200ps = 197 hp ( not 200hp)
180ps = 177 hp ( not 180hp)

Technically, yes. But how often do you see HP rating ending in a "7"? For marketing purposes, they are pretty much always considered the same.

"technically" yes you are :) but if we round up on 180 x 0.98632 then we get 177.5xxx which would be 178 :P

however, i believe the first generation jdm you have down for 190 hp is incorrect, as that rating is meant for the first generation 3sgte found in the 88-91 all trac and previous cars that used the 1st gen 3sgte, all mr2s built from 89-92 came with the 2nd gen 225 ps version

and PS is short for the German word Pferdestärke which translate to horse strength
