My AGZTE build has officially begun!

Postby fraunhofersc » Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:01 pm

Gentlemen and respected ladies of BCMR2,

I just wanted to start up this thread to inform you that my Twin-Charger (soon to have the motor designation of: 4AGZTE) has begun starting today. The car has been picked up and hopefully by the beginning of the week the motor will be out of the car and sent off to the respective machine shops for cleaning/boring etc etc.

As per 4agze's request, I will be posting any/all available pictures, documentation, how to's, challenges encountered, and solutions to, documentation in this thread wherever possible.

Just a note, I am currently on the other side of the country (Quebec to be precise) on business for about 70% of the duration of this build however, suffice it to say, I will be bugging my mechanic as frequently as possible (without affecting build completion timing) to take pictures and send them to me and outline any/every tid bit of information he can via e-mail and I will then post it on here.

I wish I could be more involved but alas I have to be out here to fund the build and ensure I have every possibility to finance it with the best parts money can buy as I'd like to do this once, not twice, and I'd like to get it right down to perfection if/where possible.

By summer of next year, I hope to be the first twin-charged mark I in the club (if there isn't one already) and I thank everyone in advance for their ongoing support and creation/maintenance of this wonderful club.

Signed,

I beat you to it, although I'm not sure I am the first either. Good luck with the project! I definitely want to see your progress, so keep us posted.

That's awesome Mike. Looking forward to this.
BCMR2 will be opening a new section called "Projects and Do-it-Yourself". I will move your project along with projects of others in that section when it's up.

Wow, that's some project. How do you plan on controlling this beast ECU wise?

Russ, thats a very good question and I have an equally good answer.

I don't know :P, i'm letting my mechanic worry about it.

I live in Surrey. I've only had the turbo on it since July, but one thing I can suggest is to use the minimum number of hose couplers (ie. weld ic pipes together where possible), otherwise you'll scare the shit out of yourself when they blow off :)

Hmph, good tip, thanks dude. I'll be sure to pass on the info to my mechanic to weld the intercooler piping :)

any idea of the style on how you will be doing the setup? such as are you gonna have the supercharger disengage at midrpm range and switch over to turbo to redline? or what whats the plan .

Yet another good question. I can't really answer it myself, but my preference is to have the supercharger from idle to mid, then as the RPM's go up a "bypass" valve or something will turn off the supercharger and let the turbo take it away or something to that affect.

yeah there are so many differant ways you can do it. cause u could keep the charger going and bypass the air or you could have it disengage the clutch and bypass the pressured air etc etc.... i wanna see pics as soon as you make progress
