RePete's old 89 SC

Hey guys, I just came in here to get something off my chest. In 2008 I crashed my 89SC bought from RePete back in 2003. The crash was my fault and totally preventable so I've felt guilty about it ever since, especially since I didn't have collision on my car and no money to fix it. It's been off the road since.

Here is what it looks like today, stripped of everything useful.

:(

So what's the plan for it?

Surprise!

Cosmetically, it is not finished yet but mechanically it's 99% done. Here's a sneak preview:

I'd like to sell the old 89 shell-- it's actually not in bad shape. I found out later that the damage was limited to only the fender and driveshaft. Everything else was in fine condition to be swapped over to the HT.

Oh sweet hardtop goodness. I was thinking that there's still lots of good stuff on that shell. You should start up a part out thread when you are ready to let go of the rest of it, and also check out ours and nearby MR2 facebook pages.

Aw, man. What a shame to see that 89 like that! I guess it answers the story as to if the other white 89 for sale is Pete's.
Too bad, but glad to see you're nearly back rolling.
Did you ever think of swapping it all back when you realized that the original shell was salvageable?

No, by that time I had already bought the HT shell with blown engine and I didn't want to deal with leaky T tops anymore. I didn't even find out the 89 body damage was mostly cosmetic until the swap was complete.

Did you end up using the e51 trans and axles?

Yeah, I kept my old trans and driver axle. I had to buy a passenger axle from eBay but my mechanic also said the one I had was repairable.

Im in for some parts if that ends up being the plan. Side skirts and front valences as well as the 89 LED wing. Glad to see the other one coming together.

I'm keeping the 89 stuff for the HT. Found an 89 spoiler just posted today in CT though: http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=508954

Finally got it running properly and took it out for a spin this weekend to put on new wheels and tires. It rained all Saturday but my interior stayed dry =)
