There's no 'blowing that much money' on Konis, they're an investment in quality & a well engineered product. Eric is right, KYBs are so-so at best, I've had them too and they're junk. They're priced cheap because they are cheap. People who post comments like that have never tried them and don't know the difference, so they just get whatever they can afford.

IS a difference. Save an extra couple of weeks and get quality dampers - which are 80% of what counts on your suspension. A couple of hundred extra is nothing for what you get, I spend that much on parking every month. Konis are pricey because those crazy Germans have spent hundreds of millions in R&D and thousands of hours of track time developing them. The car itself is quality, stick with some advanced engineering, not some low-grade shocks with a cool name that can't rebound or compress worth a shit.
