Hmm, been a while. What have I done..

Ordered new rear wheels to complete my Meister set.

Image

Rears are now going to be S1R, but with more lip than the step lipped S1s I originally got from Tony. ETA is February. Took me long enough, 3 years of owning the car and I FINALLY get some good fitting wheels on it haha.

Fabbed up a prop rod with Marc.

Image

Works fine, but there are 2 issues. One, the strut itself is too powerful for the light NA lid, and two, my cheap ass tin brackets from Home Depot are flexing whenever I open and close it haha. Gonna get some real brackets later, but these'll do until then.

And, to end the post, I have a question. My car has a short burst of rod knock upon cold starts, lasts maybe a couple seconds then it's gone. However, in first gear, and first gear only, I hear a similar knocking sound, at about 2500 RPM. It makes the noise regardless of how much throttle I'm applying. It doesn't exactly sound like knocking either, more like a rattle. Is it my transmission or engine? I don't wanna blow a hole in this block =\

Well, in case you guys didn't hear, I threw another rod or something in my engine. More knock; this time it was because I was low on oil, didn't realize it and did a few donuts in the wet. I imagine all the oil was on the side of the oil pan, and there was nothing to pick up.. so.. my bad. After some careful deliberation, I decided to limp it home. Had to get from Kerr and Marine to Rupert and 22nd in Vancouver. That was Halloween night, and the car's been sitting since.

So, my rebuild is now on green light.

I ordered Wiseco 86.5 mm forged pistons from ATS Racing today, as well as EGR block-off plates. Total was just under $600 Canadian, shipped to my door.

Next up, I'm trying to source a set of 3rd gen 3SGTE camshafts, and then move on to cam gears. I'll list out what I'm getting below.

Wiseco 86.5 mm pistons - ATS Racing
3rd gen 3SGTE camshafts - unknown
HKS cam gears - KO Racing
3S GTE clear cam cover, gotta show off those shiny cam gears! :D - TwosRus
Cometic head gasket - KO Racing
ARP head studs - ATS Racing
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump - KO Racing
ATS EGR block off plates - ATS Racing
OEM water pump, oil pump, timing belt - ATS Racing
Full OEM gasket set - KO Racing
HFH, HFHOE - I found it online, but forgot where LOL. Lithia maybe?

Bolt ons, that will be a lot easier with the engine out:
ATS Racing intercooler kit - ATS Racing
Air intake kit - unknown
Manual boost controller - ATS Racing
Gauges; boost, oil pressure, wideband O2 - unknown

I'd definitely love to get an electronic boost controller, but that can wait, since a manual one works just as well.

Looking at towing the car to the shop within the next 2 weeks, then dropping the engine and trans. I'm also gonna look for synchros for the E153 transmission; I'm tired of my 2nd gear grind and would love to do it all in one shot. There will be other small things too, like maybe a TRD thermostat, radiator cap, oil cap, engine bay bolts, some polishing of things like heat shield, water neck, etc.

Let me know what you think, especially if you think I should add connecting rods, valves, valve springs and such to the list.

Can't provide much insight on the rebuild, but looking forward to following along!

Sorry to hear about engine

Why not order the oem Toyota parts from Toyota ? Conicelli had a free ship over 100 and then 10% if you used a Facebook code.

Any reason for the camshafts and cam gears?
I guess aircare is almost gone so issues related to aircare are gone.
As gears and camshafts are a huge investment and really require dyno tuning and crankshaft degree wheel.

Why are you upgrading the fuel pump?
Why not denso, twin turbo supra

Good luck

I'll look in Conicelli and Lithia, see what prices they have.

I just want a little bump in power, figured cams and gears were a good couple things to try out. I've already located a couple sets of 3rd gen camshafts, one guy is letting me have his set for $110 shipped to Canada!

I've seen a lot of builds where they upgrade the fuel pump while replacing the engine, and I might as well do it all in one go. Never thought about going denso or Supra twin turbo, I'll definitely look into that as well.

Thanks Cam :]

Ill pm you my number, shoot me a text with any questions. I did my whole rebuild back in jan. I did every thing except the machining myself. I don't have a crank balancer. Don't forget to get your injectors balanced, do a dual feed, and the crank/rods/pistons/flywheel/clutch/harmonic balancer balanced as one unit. Vital for blueprinting an engine. I went with alot of OEM parts. A good friend of mine has built several 2jz builds, stock components could take 600hp, 2/3 of that is 400, and since most parts are the same then theory states stock internals on a 3sgte could do 400.

I went with the Supra fuel pump too. Walbro's loud whine is annoying for me.

Awesome, sounds like you guys all prefer the Supra one lol. Fortunately it seems like camshaft is gonna sell me one he has lying around :P

Oem denso is way better then any aftermarket unit

I was going to mention that you may have to purchase a aftermarket fuel pressure regulator to adjust fuel flow. As many times higher flow pumps over power the stock regulator

I have the supra tt pump in my mk1 and the really nice thing about it is that it is quiet, in fact i don't hear it at all.

That's exactly why I bought mine, well and the fact that it should last around 20 years or so.

Engine is now out of the car. The shop has been busy recently, so I wasn't able to go in like I wanted to and do it myself. No matter, it's on a stand now. Gonna go down on Sunday and take some pictures, maybe start tearing it down.
