Got it all together with about two weeks to spare. Drove it around a bunch and it felt great. We were planning to leave for Toyotafest on a Tuesday and the friday I was making a trip to Blaine and it popped out of 5th gear on the highway. I put it back it, and it popped out again, and then it wouldn't go back. It also wouldn't go into reverse. I got it hope and took the 5th gear cover off to find that the snap ring on the input shaft had removed itself and had bounced around and taken a few of the teeth on the 5th driven gear with it.

In a mad panic I called up Ross and asked if I could borrow the 5th gear from the old transmission that I had just sold him. I got the parts on Sunday and put it together that day. So I had to take it for a spin,

Changed the oil again on the Monday and fortunately it all worked well, so off to Toyotafest 2016 she went!

That's Andrew, he's also from Vancouver. You might have seen him around at a couple of shows. He has a blue widebody with a big turbo. Ironically, us Canadians took the 1st & Runner Up trophies. Sorry America, I'm sure one of these days you'll be great again :Canada:

Steering rack rebuild time. It's a bit of a pain. Several parts are special order and a couple of bearings are discontinued. If you go to a bearing supplier you can find an equivalent.

and then winter came along. I've been chasing some seemingly minor issues regarding cam to crank timing. Since I have the time, space & tools, I figured the easiest thing to do was to pull the motor and dig in.

Chain guides look pretty good and are well within specification,

The VVTI cam phaser wasn't responding to ECU commands, so I took them apart;

Plenty of scoring inside. This was the worst of the set. The other intake phaser was alright, but did show signs of scoring as well. Both exhaust phasers looked fine.

Now, to finally get to what I wanted to do this winter, brakes!

Out with the old '93T stuff!

Some stuff;

Pads. I went with Wilwood BP-10's. They sound like they will be a good all around pad. I'm sure I'll experiment with different compounds later.

Boo, wheels don't fit over the big calipers! You can see where it was interfering. That's just a little scrape there, but it's going to need spacers up front.

Spaced out,

I decided to try and spice things up for Toyotafest this year, by adding a little colour in the form of vinyl graphics per the old TRD IMSA racecars,

Some more randoms from the last year,

Image

Image

While installing the trunk prop, I noticed a water leak, so I pulled the carpet and has some surface rust. I blasted the with a wire wheel and then a coat of POR-15 for rust prevention and then some truck bedliner.

Image

Most people don't notice, but there's a little green LED that illuminates the keyhole on the driver's side handle. It's quite dim at the best of times and then gets covered in dust. One day I decided to pull it out and replace it with a random LED I had in my electronics box. I wasn't even sure what colour I had until it lit up.

Image

I also finally got back around to this, a new wrap on my steering wheel. I've been sitting on this for a while. It's from Redline Goods and although the material feels really nice, the template seems a little off. There are a couple places where it doesn't quite meet up perfectly, and a few places where there seems to be excess material.
