I win bitch.

Those front radius rod bushings are a bitch. Who's bright idea was it to include a little window with another little rubber piece like that?

I have a boll joint press tool, but it doesn't have adjustable arms, so I tried out Duncan's 2 jaw puller.

The bushing install was completed last week. This week I laid down a layer of insulation on the bottom of the trunk and another layer against the trunk firewall (where the ECU mounts). I noticed that was getting quite hot as well, but I guess it was never intended to have a header on the other side of it. I wrapped the pipes in the frunk too, but I haven't been back in there to see how much of a difference it makes.

Aly hooked me up with some exhaust bits, such that I can soon get a proper y-pipe made up, and I might be picking up some new mufflers soon...

where you trying to press out the complete old bushings Russ ?

As in the picture you can see the old 93+ front bushings ?

What works the best is just torching out the rubber then just hacksaw or chisel out the metal sleeve. Seemed to work out on the last dozen or so cars that I did.

Ya, I was trying to press them out. I was trying to do it the clean and less smelly way. Trust me, I had the torch in arms reach if they hadn't come out that time.

I have a nice 15ton air/oil press that makes quick work out of these bushings.
Done many for MR2DC/LCG members.

Fronts done, the edge of the tire was just touching my sway bar under full lock. I just measured and my 5mm spacers are actually 8mm. Anyone have a set of 5mm spacers they want to sell or trade?

Since I have another autox on saturday I had Cam help me out. He welded in some new (and only slightly) larger mufflers...

The car is quieter now, but not a whole lot. There's definitely less raspy-ness to it, more muted, not really much change in tone. The old mufflers were definitely starting to degrade. If you pick one up you can hear lots of little bits bouncing around inside it.

If anyone is curious about what happened to the car last night, I accelerated rather briskly from a light and the engine torqued so much in the mounts that the large plastic drive by wire throttle position sensor hit the catch can and smashed the connector which put the engine into limp mode. Fortunately it was just the connector, and since we were at Canadian Tire I was able to zap strap it in place temporarily.

Well, when I put the engine in I had urethane filled front and rear mounts. At the end of the driving season last year the front mount had the urethane & rubber separating and disintegrating, so I swapped in a 100% urethane front mount and the rear remained the same urethane filled one as before.
