The sensitive accelerator pedal just might be the torque.

I don't know if you've already tried but you can try extending the studs for the strut top mounts, I don't know if it's really a good idea though.

I don't think it's just the torque (I'd like to though!). I've talked with Rav4 owners that find it sensitive too. I'll probably just add a light return spring, but those pedals are relatively cheap (~$50?), so I might just try one from an Avalon or something. It's a problem because on low speed bumpy roads as you are being bumped up and down it's nearly impossible not to bump the throttle so your getting pushed back into the seat at the same time. Long highway trips are tough too because you have to concentrate on holding your foot in just the right place (I don't have cruise).

Other people have suggested extended strut mount studs too, but you end up putting the forces into the threaded portion of the stud and not only is that not ideal, I would need to space them up at least 1/2", probably closer to 3/4". Someone also suggested taking a heat gun to the plenum, but that just seems like a really bad idea to me, and in addition I would have to melt and/or find some way to move the ACIS valve on the front side of the motor.

if any of them are steel they can be heated bent and rewelded together if need be? I recently finished rewelding my TRD bar (I welded all the joints, just need to clean them up now) so it can be easily customized :)

It would take a lot more work than that to make any of them fit, so I might as well just try and make my own instead of hacking up a perfectly good bar.

Russ' Spring MR2 Project - 2GR Conversion

Postby dRebel » Wed Feb 01, 2012 3:44 pm

I always find FBW pedals hard to be smooth on bumpy roads, I actually prefer good old throttle cable actuation for this reason. I think it's more the lack of damping the cable in the housing creates than the strength of the return spring for me, though that is also a factor. If there is a way you could add some friction into the pedal that would be my suggestion. Perhaps creating a rubbing surface of some kind combined with a stronger spring would help?

After driving my Mazda with the drive by wire throttle, I would never go back to a cable actuated throttle. Everything works perfectly, feels good and the electronics can respond so much faster. Of course, it's all designed to fit that car, it's not a Franken-2.

No suicides, just a little extra brightness. My work lamps are in the storage locker.
