I haven't spent much time on this since the car is put away for winter, but I did take some interesting measurements of the inner diameter of the intake pipe. Because a hotwire MAF relies on a known tube diameter to calculate air flow, I'm thinking that this might be the reason for my lean condition.

And which one runs lean?
And lean was from your dyno run?

The K&N runs lean according to the dyno run. I can also feel a lull somewhere around 3800-4200ish.

You would think the smaller k&n one would run richer then the larger oem tube

What I find even more odd is that the intake plenum has a heavy gasoline smell to it.

Well only way to tell is put oem on it and dyno.
Or get wideband and log some numbers yourself.

Yup. I'll worry about it in the new year when the car is close to going back together.

MK2 Spyder convertible, here I come!

Image

Actually, I borrowed the sawzall for another project that's been idle for a while - power steering....

To start, clean out the frunk and move as much out of the way as I could,
Image

I picked up all the parts from Josh (deathcougar) and was very fortunate to have him cut up the donor chassis for me,
Image

Line them up and mark out the area to be cut for the pump & reservoir,
Image

Cuts made, no going back!
Image

The next tricky part is to get underneath the car to test fit the pump, reservoir & lines, but before I get to that, I had another chunk of steel to deal with, this guy,
Image

Josh cut that one out for me as well since it has the brackets to support the pump, and a bracket to hold one of the lines to the rack. I just drilled out the spot welds as you can see,
Image

Hopefully I'll have some time during this week to put it all together!

Russ very intrested in progress on the Power Steering mod. I'll be doing that later this spring on one of the cars. Did you go with a power steering setup from a 91-93, or did you get it from a 94-95, as they are slightly different.

On a side note how on earth are you getting away with doing all this work in what looks like a parking garage of a condo, complex :o

I get away with it because I'm the second to last spot. The last spot is a friendly neighbour and I'm almost always blocked by another car so no one can see what I'm up to.

I got all the parts from Josh, and they are from a '93. Yes they are slightly different, but significantly more available than '94 stuff. I may switch over to the '94 PS ECU in the future, if one becomes available, but time will tell if I think it's worth it. I hope to get back under the car Wed. or Thurs. as I have been pretty busy tonight, and I have school tomorrow evening.

You've seen my seats, and I did say that I was going to replace them this winter.
