93 and later short shifter fs

Postby kinesis » Tue Oct 28, 2003 2:55 pm

i have an extra 93 or later short shift assembly. i believe it is 93 or later. that is what a francis at toyota told me. it is a stock part. my understanding is that the throw on this is shorter than prior years. i unfortunately did not do my homework and ended up buying the same thing cuz i have a post 93 model.

anyone able to suggest a shorter kit? i am looking a the trd one.

btw the assembly i have has signs of rust. not badly, but if you use that anti rust stuff and steel brush it a bit it will be fine. if anyone wants it they can have it for 40$cdn. otherwise it sits on my shelf as a reminder of careless shooping ;)

The TRD one is more money than the 1993 OEM shifter. It offers approx 10% shorter throws than the 1993 shifter; however the feel is much more notchy.

The 1993+ is the best shifter you could have in your MKII. This will save you money so you can buy the shift knob of your choice if you dislike the OEM shortened 1993+ shiftknob.

Sean put the TRD short shifter in his 1991 N/A. He refuses to put it into his 1993 because it shifts so much smoother (if you discount his tranny issues)

Ask him: sean@bcmr2.com he will be the best to review this for you as he has used both.

For others thinking about buying the TRD shifter..I strongly recommend this shifter that Kinesis is selling.

Good luck.

I think I'd like to buy that, as long as you're sure it's a '93 or later. Please PM me and we'll talk. I'll E-mail you tonight too.

I would definetely go with the 93 shifter if you are driving a 91-92. TRD shortens 91-92 about 30%, where as 93 is about 20% shorter. 93 is much smoother, and way way less money. TRD quickshifter kit is around $150 I think. 93 is about $25 from toyota if I recall correctly.

Both are about a 1/2 hour install.

I'm confused... :? You're saying that I can get it new for $36.80 and I may buy a rusty one, here, for $40.00?

yeah, I used to sell those to suckers on eBay, I started the bidding out at $1 and they bid all the way up to $60USD for something they can get at their local dealer for $23 USD. I wasn't intentionally ripping them off, if they wanna pay $60 for a $23 part, so be it.

complete shifter assembly

Postby kinesis » Tue Oct 28, 2003 6:25 pm

well, not sure what is being bought or sold out there. but this isn't just the stick shift. it's the complete assembly. plate, brace, etc. you probably don't need all of it if you don't want it. but it's a bit less work to install. and i won't just sell the stick on its own.

This reminds me... The 1991 shifter knob will not fit this shifter. You will require a new shifter knob.

If the price is right I'm interested....
Was going to order a 93+ shifter the other day......

This seems to be the only thing for a 93+
check it out

93+ for 93-99 MR2 - The 93+ cars presented a fabrication problem due to the shorter shifter shaft. We finally came up with a design that works and it is only sold in conjunction with an RSe drop plate to insure clearance of the cable with the center console.
