WTB: 91 turbo clutch (upgrade options?)

Postby podgers » Wed Sep 03, 2003 2:19 pm

I'm putting this in the mkII forum instead of mechanical because I'm pretty sure I'll be making a purchase, not just floating this out. However, I'm a little confused as to my options.

From looking at company websites, I suppose the ACT street clutch (HDMM) made for the mr2T looks like a good bet, though I wish there was more information on IMOC easily findable about this.

I guess my questions are as follows:
1) Is this generally regarded as a good choice for drivability? I'd like near OEM if possible. The only reason I'm looking aftermarket instead of OEM is RickyB indicates that once you get into modest power increases you reach the limit of the stock clutch.
2) Where should I look to make a purchase?

Thanks.

Dont get the ACT ... prone to chattering .
Clutchmasters stage III . Feels as light if not lighter than stock and very tight on launches . Very durable .
Im not sure where you can get them out here ... I can get them for about $900

I notice there is a clutchmasters group buy on IMOC right now. Thanks for the info. Although I don't know what "chattering" in a clutch is I don't like the sound of it.

Chattering, exactly what it sounds like. You let out the pedal and it chatters. Kinda grab, slip, grab, slip. Not pleasant.

The sound you are describing is that of the clutch throwout bearing...completely normal.

that's totally different. Chattering is when releasing the clutch, rather then grabbing smoothly the car will kinda go jerkily as the clutch is slipping, grabbing (chattering). Kinda like ABS does with brakes. This will also happen if you've abused your clutch and have hot spots on your flywheel.
