mk2 widebody writeoff for parts

Postby sprinterkb » Sun Apr 06, 2014 3:42 pm

To anyone who has access to ICBC salvage purchasing.
I had a call from an owner who had a really nice built widebody
I saw the car breifly on the road.very pretty and blue in color
Specs, 2.2 stroker hks valves and springs, je forged pistons dual feed fuel rail
T3/T4 turbo, trunk mount intercooler SDS ecu etc.
Trd lsd in trans, Brembo brakes Tein coilovers 18/8/9 wheels to fit the widebody
Owner could have bought for 2200 as scrap, sounds like it just had fiberglass damage as it
Drove on to the tow truck.
Hope someone can save the good parts
Not sure who built it, but the owner said he was a Audi tech in Vancity.

Was this the light blue one? It's looked great. How does someone get their hands on an ICBC wreck?

Get a license from ICBC as a rebuilder (bodyshop), autowrecker or scrap metal recycler and then you can bid on cars here. If you are interested or curious about how to become a buyer, check this link.

Not the car, it was a darker brighter color.
I understand the builder is a Audi tech in Vancity, anybody know the owner?
Hate to see it go to scrap

Jeez, must have money to burn! Most car guys would want to buy it back and recoup some value even if it just meant parting it out.

Owner had no place or desire to part it.
It will be a shame if this car is wasted.

I assume it's past the point of him being able to buy it back Kevin? I'd grab that in a heartbeat if I could

Likewise. If he can still buy it, I'll buy it from him.

It appears his deadline from ICBC was last thursday and he said no.
So I can only assume it will go up for sale to wreckers.
Cam I sent you his email, he replied to my email and said he will get me the Vin tomorrow as he is working a nightshift.
Save this car!

I spoke to the owner for quite awhile today. Sounds like it really was quite the car in it's former glory.

The owner told me that ICBC told him that he couldn't rebuild the car. I'm not sure if that was because he doesn't have the license to do it, or if the title is now set to dismantle only. I haven't seen pictures, but he told me the rear of the car went into a tree. The front bumper was ripped off, the driver side damaged and the rear hit the tree. That being said, as Kevin mentioned it still drove onto the trailer.

I got the VIN number this evening and have a cousin of a buddy who might be able to bid on it for me......which sounds about as reliable as a Plymouth Voyageur Turbo, but I figure a small chance was better than nothing.

Thanks for your help Kevin, I'll let you guys know if I can get my hands on it!

Good luck, Cameron. Sounds like a decent car to fix or part!

I won the auction this morning, but the title is a dismantle only. So I can't save the car, but can save the parts.

Sadly it will be almost 2 weeks before I get to see it with my own eyes!
