Suggestion: Olympic Peninsula

Postby MR2WSN » Sun Jul 31, 2005 7:34 am

Just back from vacationing on the Olympics. While driving, I noticed that the route would be fun in an MR2.

For a possible multi-day drive, might I suggest driving south through Deception Pass to Keystone Ferry, crossing and heading west on Hwy 101 to Pt Angeles. From then on, the fun would really start.

Hwy 101 is a great drive, especially past Lake Crescent where the 2 lane road twists along the edge fo the lake for 8-10 miles. Very pretty to be sure.

Later westbound, turn north on 113 then east onto 112 back to Pt Angeles. While 113 isnt all that hot, 112 is a road with some good scenery, with a significant number of hills and turns. There are a few nice spots with viewpoints off of 112.

If it is done multi-day, then reservations at Sol Duc Resort (or a stop over) would be good as it is a hotsprings.

Then its back via Keystone or across the ferry to Victoria and again across at Swartz Bay. Two to three ferry runs gets pricey, but it is a different drive with some beautiful country along the way.

Cheers, Don

My dance-card is already full for that weekend as my son is getting married then.

One must watch the priorities.

Maybe another drive. Now that I've got Dustin's old engine in my 2nd project car, I could drive it. The car is ugly, but it drives very well indeed. Of course, no one will want to drive near me for fear of parts falling off. :D

I was talking to some of the guys from Victoria/Vancouver Island during the meet this weekend and we talked about setting up an Olympic Peninsula run.

It looks like we've got a pretty full schedule of club runs to choose from for the rest of this summer so I think I will plan a run for next summer that will be a weekend run. I know a lot of great back roads off of those highways that are also a blast.

Look for more info next season! If you want to plan something for this summer tho, I'd be happy to offer some suggested routes.

I have to go on a business trip the 28th, so that won't work for me. My fall is quite crazy (actually the whole job is).

I've got 2 weddings in September, a major work milestone, some big biz trips, and more. The drive would do a lot to relieve the stress, but sadly the timing is not working yet. :(

I'm watching!!
