WTB: JDM Rear Clips - MK2 specifically

Postby Sk8r » Sat Dec 07, 2002 11:02 am

Is there anyone in Canada, hopefully western Canada that sells rear clips for MK2s?
Or does anyone have experience with bringing one across the border?

Is this for a MK1 or a MKII...

Which clip are you looking for? OEM, J-SPEC, etc?

Answer this and someone will be able to assist...

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the clip? Turbo swap...engine swap??

Its for an MKII - 91 turbo - very cool wheels but has a few issues
If you need a complete history, I can describe the problems I am having but it could get long and boring, so I will summarize
Basically, the car has a lot of kms and although the engine was supposed to be rebuilt previously, it is using too much oil. Also, the transmission has a leak in the housing - appears to be cracked with attempted repair. I would like to try another engine/trans set to get it on the road next summer. If at that time I am not satisfied and I run into some spare cash, I may rebuild the spare engine. I figured a complete clip may be the cheaper, easier way to go.
As far as the type, I'm not sure what the difference is between OEM and J-spec. It may depend on price, but I may consider one with upgrades if the condition and price is right.
So, thanks for any help or advice. There's not too many people with MR2 knowledge in this area, including the Toyota dealer who is 75 km away. :?

I wouldnt get a Jspec as you'll run into replacement part issues. In terms of hp , the N Am spec can be modified to give you the same if not more power without too much hassle.
Getting a rear clip is definately the way to go if you intend to modify upto to at least 250 whp. You'll need the time to get things right a a batch of spare parts will come in very handy .. I can attest to that.
I believe there is a shop in Richmond that brings in clips....

JK Engines in Richmond on No. 3 Road sells rear clips.
Does Kurtis S. still have his 3SGTE lying around?
I know he was selling an engine and transmission at one time.

Thanks, I found their web site
I take it there are some basic differences between the J-spec and N American versions. What are some of the differences, either internally or externally that make them non interchangeable?

Kurtis is still around and as far as I know he still has his 2. We could always ask bumfuzzler (Mike) about him at the XMAS party as I believe they hang out in the same circle of friends.

seems there is a good place to get rear clips. But it's down in the U.S. so you'd have to go get it or ship. PITA. But it's an option.
