NO LONGER FOR SALE: 1987 Blue MR2 with Sunroof

Postby MR2WSN » Wed Mar 09, 2016 4:53 pm

With no interest in my little project car, I have decided to withdraw it from the market and to continue my original restoration plans. I've left most of this post here for interest, but just to remember when reading it, the car is NOT FOR SALE and will hopefully be restored over the next year.

=====================

Hi all,

I have decided to sell one of MR2's. I have owned it since 2005. The car is very drive-able and I believe it to be roadworthy. It has been garage stored and unlicensed since Oct-2011. My plan this spring was to give it a brake job, and start driving it over the summer a bit.

This is my NEXT project car, as opposed to my "show" car, and I suppose that one can think of it as a restoration project that I have prepared for but not quite started. As with all unrestored MR2's, it has rusty wheel arches and lowers, BUT, my price includes a full set of factory-new arches/lowers that are pretty much the same as the ones in the URL below which is in US dolalrs:

http://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_26&products_id=383

The engine was replaced about 10k km ago with a fairly decent engine. It has decent Nokian tires that still have lots of tread (I'd guess 10% worn), and tear-drop rims. The brakes work, and the reason for a brake job is that the parking brake needs to be lubed and freed up (one of my spring projects). I don't have it engaged and use wheel blocks, so it isn't seized. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recommend yanking on the parking brake before checking it out. The frame is solid, the front-end good. The left fender is an eye-catching "RED" as I had replaced a rusty front fender with a good one.

The interior has been updated with higher end fabric seating and a better center console, and I recall putting in a carpet that was in better condition than when I got it. The front air-dam is good, and if you want I'll throw in a set of side air-effects in the same blue colour.

On the exterior I have put on a wing so it doesn't look lame.

The car needs the arches done and a paint job, but other than that it runs beautifully. Frankly, it could be a fine beater if you don't want to do anything, and just sell the parts that come with it.

For the car as it sits, with great tires, air effects, and the wheel arch/panel kit, I am asking $xxxx. Sorry, but going for test drives just won't work as I've got an enormous trailer right in front of the door on a 9-degree slope. Tricky to put up and down, but you are very welcome to check over the car in the garage. Hey, bring a mechanic friend if you aren't so inclined.

You can contact me by emailing don_middleton @ hotmail.com at which point I can send you a phone number.

Cheerio, Don

Photo of car (left one) is in this folder: http://1drv.ms/1Wae1Xf, and feel free to check out my signature url to see other pictures which include it. In the twins photo, it is the one with my daughter on the right.

Good luck on the sale.
Makes sense when you have another MK1.
Nice information page, thanks, I book marked it.
If I hear of any one looking for a MK1, will let them know.

Cheers
My 87 Mk1 is sold :( Owned many KE1#'s, currently a 2015 Yaris and a 2001 Rav4

Sorry for the delay. I didn't get an email notice, and I don't come on here every day. I'll have to change my settings. :?

I have taken 16 pictures and put them in this online folder: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C3D58E6E73A18ECF!9334&authkey=!AMAlDNWT3QHhGXM&ithint=folder%2cjpg

If there are trouble seeing the contents please let me know. I am hoping it will work well for everyone.

PM might be a good thing at this point if you have more detailed questions. I definitely get an email for those.

BTW, as of today, a brand new NAPA battery. While the old one was being kept charged, it just wasn't making it, so today a brand new one. NO PRICE CHANGE.

Thanks for asking! Don

It's nice out, the trailer has been pulled, and my #2 MR2 is in the driveway awaiting a lovely visit to his favorite MR2 mechanic tomorrow morning. After an oil change, lube and a minor brake tune-up I think I might just buy a day-plate and go for a nice long drive. :-)

After a visit to the mechanics, the brakes are now in tip-top condition, and I've put day-plates on it until end of Thursday Apr-28. I'm going driving, but if you want to check out the car before the plates expire, then that would be a smart thing. With it on the road, and running very happily, the price is now $xxxx all-in with the metal parts previously described included.

It's ok if there are no takers, because I can happily keep and drive this puppy. It just means it's really will be my "NEXT Project Car". In the worse case, it is a donor car for my restored MR2. And after a drive from Tsawwassen to Abbotsford and back, I was reminded how good this car is, and that not selling it would be perfectly fine. :-)

... and now maybe it's time to start the restoration. Things just might be lining up. First the metal and there appears to be a good plan to tackle that....
