FS: 1986 Red MR2 - near give away to a good driver!

Postby roadworthy » Wed Jun 12, 2013 12:36 pm

I have a 1986 MR2, manual. I have had it since new. I want to sell it - don't want to scrap it!

LOCATION: Right now it is at Broadway and Fraser, Vancouver, at mechanics.

Things that could use attention:

needs new heating core - is bypassed right now and okay for summer
has some oil leaks (I think reasonable for the age of the car)
emergency break a bit loose
breaks need adjusting
shocks probably not good
check one tire - may leak at rim (not sure)
needs one orange light lens (broken lens is there but taped)

It has never failed air care - but now has been sitting for about 10 months or so.
I'm putting in a new battery, and my mechanic has inspected it for what it needs - list available.
Milage low for the age - will have to check exact milage, but maybe around 200,000.
Has had body work. Not perfect but looks pretty good. (At mechanics - dusty from sitting - needs a wash and I think will look fine).

Accidents:
1) Someone hit right back corner light and body around 1988. I had it professionally repaired by great body shop.
2) Small rear-ender, hit a bit to the right - around 1992. No damage except needed realignment which I had done.
3) Small rear-ender (tap) around 2000. No damage at all.
4) Car grazed and swiped in parking lot around 2006. Left rear tire-well damaged - got body work done - did both sides at the same time.

If someone wants to buy it "as is" with new battery and inspection list directly from my mechanic's lot, I'm open to any reasonable offer. I'm
really flexible because otherwise I'll have to insure it, and pay to park it somewhere!

I just love that car and I think someone ought to be able to enjoy it!

(I'm looking for pictures I have stored somewhere!)

If you pick it up from my mechanics this week you get the car, the list of items that require work, new battery. It has no plates right now and has storage insurance only. I'd have to get a 1 day permit for you to test drive I guess. It will require air care (which it has never failed previously). As long as my costs get covered you can have the car - somewhere around $300? I'll need to check my bill at the mechanics, cost for permit to drive, any transfer fees. It's a great car!

I can't find any recent pictures. At this rate, I'm going to have to pay and pick it up, pay to insure it, run it through the car wash, pay to park it, and then I'll have some pictures. The body looks fine. The skirt package has some bumps and scrapes. It looks pretty sweet after it's washed driving around in the sun! I would keep it but I have a 1989 BMW 535i stick, and kids & family to drive around. I wouldn't scrap the MR2 because I'd still drive it myself if I had room for another car...

Thanks, but I have to go and get it now. Might as well wash it and vacuum it... May put plates and insurance on and run through air care. Then perhaps I'll post again - but seems silly to sell at that price now because it's costing my money... Not sure what I will do with it now.

I was forced to move it from where it was parked. I had it towed to my mechanics because the battery was done. I had an inspection and new battery installed. I put a one day permit on it and parked it today. IT IS FOR SALE! It is a great car, and I would keep it if I had a place to keep it, but I don't. I don't have the luxury time to drive it. It's just going to sit around and I'll have to pay to park it. I haven't had time to wash it yet, never mind put it through air care. Someone is going to get a great car, hopefully sooner than later! (thanks for posting pics) (It was fun driving it today - and that is saying something because I drive a BMW 535i stick)...

hey entrax, what if I told you I already have one? haha man I don't know why people even ask IF I have parts anymore I have it haha, the question should be what parts DON'T I have? it needs a bit of work though but for the most part is in good shape, do you need the metal or the rubber piece or both? right now I have the metal piece and the rubber piece I am getting in a week or so I bought a parts car last night, but won't pick it up until then.

I plan to keep this car on the road, my current daily needs to transplant everything out of it into this car if it is still available, and then it will be heading to my work for paint, all of this hinges on whether the car is still for sale and the accident damage has not left too much damage to the uni-body.
