British Columbia MR2 Owners Group

I have a 1988 SC MR2. Over the last couple of years I have dealt with the rust on the back quarter panels as well as the floorboards - so no more rust. It has 322000km on it and still going strong. Stock except for shocks and clutch. I am wondering how much to ask if I was to thinking of selling it.

In my opinion, the biggest hit to price a MKI can take is due to unibody cancer. Unfortunately, I think if your car runs strong it's worth in the $1500 range at best.

if it's a good driver, the rust has been repaired PROPERLY not bondo, the engine has been rebuilt and there is not too much synchro grind, I would say $2000-$2500, depends upon paint cond. as well, I mean really mileage is somewhat irrelevant if the person is not looking for a collector car. Typically most cars in that mileage range are either complete pieces of shit or have somewhat recently had everything replaced.
Definitely need more info to make a proper appraisal of a car though, even paint color makes a difference.

Paint colour? I disagree with that. Solid, good conditioned MKIs are so far and few between that I highly doubt the sway a serious MR2 enthusiast's valuation.

you are wrong, I am on my 11th MKI I would say that I am a MKI MR2 enthusiast, I WOULD care if the car was lime green sorry bro. The cost of a new paint job is nearly the value of the car when we are talking MKI's

I don't consider a lime green aftermarket paint job a car in good condition. The biggest value in these cars is a solid body with good original paint. We're not talking the same thing. What I'm saying is a nice original black '88SC and an Orange Mica in the same condition are worth equal amounts despite colour preferences. The car is so rare in the first place, I'd even buy a red one if I came across a nice one

The engine has not been rebuilt, but the head gasket has been done. However the engine is running smooth and strong even with the mileage. I recently did a trip to Kelowna and back and got 31 mpg (Canadian) (9.1 l/100km) and that was crusing between 120 and 130 km/hr - even up all of the hills. It still climbs the hill past the Bear snow shed with no problem. The rust has been dealt with, but there is a slight mismatch on the paint. The car has been repainted about 15 years ago and is still in good condition. Interior is good and does not show any major signs of wear. If someone was looking for a collector car this one would be great.

Yep.. Repaint, $1500 at best.
