Another Rad Question

Postby mr P » Sat Apr 21, 2012 9:37 pm

Where does one buy a good quality rad without giving my money to Toyota? Tried Lordco twice neither one fit properly ( cheap, poor quality ) Just for those that ask.... it's for an 88 NA MR2. Can't drive far without keeping a cool head.

There's got to be a few radiator shops around that can get you one. Otherwise try eBay for a mishimoto or fluidyne.

At the risk of sounding like a corporate mole, this is exactly why AW11 owners are seeing an increase in dwindling parts - especially lately. I know it's not the most inexpensive solution, but if we want Toyota to continue making these parts for everyone, owners need to shop at the dealer [just occasionally] or Toyota eventually discontinues the part forever.

Ya, there's still a bunch of things that I end up buying from the dealer. They are all from the US mind you.

Another Rad Question

Have you tried the dealer cnd and us?
I personally was surprised how inexpensive a oem rad was from the dealer.

You pay for what you get aftermarket , which normally is poor fitting junk

Try
http://www.cooldirect.ca/

they have a local warehouse and say they have lots of unlisted rads in stock
their prices look to be the same as twosrus for the MK2

First, the stealership here in Canada wants over 600$ for the rad, in the states it's 390$. Both prices are off the deep end. Cooldirect doesn't have a listing for an 88 mr2 and I've seen some of the crap that comes from ebay , won't take the chance. What I'm going to do is take the old rad and get it recored if that's not too expensive. It can't cost 600$!!!

ill second russ's comment on mishimoto stuff, they dont mess around, they make really good quality products (their silicone rad hoses have a lifetime warantee, uncluding if its in an accident, all you have to do is have pictures and a police report and they will replace it)

I had my radiator rebuilt at a great shop for $260. Brand new core, warrantied, will last a long time.

Valley Radiator in Chilliwack. Guy named Jim, he's been there for many years and does really good work. Apparently he ran all the other rad shops out of town because they couldn't compete :)

That was a good price as i paid $390 to have my mk1 rad recored by a shop in north van. But it fits unlike the after market crap I was dealing with, so I'm happy.
