Aluminum Bushings for TRD Shifter in place!

Postby FOX » Wed Feb 14, 2007 10:04 pm

Ever since 2006 BCMR2 I got a set of these bushings from Cam and finally came around installing them. Here is how they look after replacing the rubber bushings with the new alluminum ones:

I had mistakenly thought that the bronze ones went in the shifter cables but found out that they go at the gearbox end, so I went down there but couldn't work it out due to lack of height, so I will have to visit a friends shop who has one of these holes in the ground to work underneat cars. BTW I also took a pic of the spring I use to keep the leather boot stick against the shift knob, as with the new TRD knob, the boot doesn't hold up against the shift knob as with the OEM one. Here is the pic:

What I do is slide the boot over the spring and then screw the shift knob while holding down on the boot over the spring. That spring is really soft though.

That looks like a spring from a RC car or truck suspension.
You can get those form your local hobby shop.

I got that spring at a regular auto parts shop and I believe it belongs to the carburator of an american car. It is really soft and it could actually be a little shorter, but that's what they had, so it holds the boot against the shift knob really hard. You cannot accidentally move it.

That decal really comes handy for the Valet Parking here in Mexico City in lots of restaurants is the ONLY way to park your car, and the 2 being such an unknown car here, the decal tells'em where reverse gear is.

I think its a legal thing as the knob is OEM so they have to have a sticker to make it legal.. as most other knobs have it on the top.. (OEM)
