MKII VIN Code Help?

Postby YSG » Tue Oct 08, 2002 9:50 am

Hello. I posted this question before the board went downa nd got a terrific explanation. However, now all that info is gone. Would the poster of the explanation of the VIN code for the MKII please post that wonderful data again? I am looking to find out the original paint code and LSD code for my '93 MKII. Thank-you kindly.
Cheers,

All cars have a code of A/TM on the door jamb sticker, which is axle and transmission. The axle code is a 3 digit number and if it's odd, it should be an LSD car. If it's even, it should be an open differential car. All turbos should have E153 for the TM code and all NAs should have S54.

EdStacy should be able to provide more info.

Only thing to add/clarify is when you look at the certification label for the axle code, you will see something like this:

A/TM: XXXX XXXXX

The last digit (in bold) is the number you're looking for; if its a "3" or a "5", then you have LSD (or supposed to have when the car left the factory)
