No high beam

Postby m_b » Thu Nov 14, 2013 1:27 am

When I got my car, my high beams wouldn't work if you pushed the turn signal stalk towards the front and it would only come on with flash to pass. Neither of them stopped working and was wondering if anyone has any idea on what's going on.

I've read that it has something to do with the turn signal stalk switch or something but haven't been able to find time to properly diagnose it.

Thanks!!

1992 Turbo, Canadian model so no P/S. Stock column. Checked the fuses, everything seems fine.

Yes to circuit diagram, still don't quite understand it.

Assuming the SW20s are set up like the AW11s, the actual switch for the high beams is in the turn signal switch. That goes off to a relay that handles the power for the lights. If they work with flash to pass, that relay is OK and the problem is with that switch. If they don't ever work, then it could be any number of things, but I'd bet the other contact on the switch has died.

I had the same problem last summer on my '87.
