Locks and Interior Rattle

Postby Lfran » Tue Jul 31, 2012 4:57 pm

While driving my center rear storage box rattles (the top lid part) when I lift up the top part it stops. Anyone have any tips on stopping the rattle when the lid is down? Also my car is JDM and the central locking mechninism stopped working only on the drivers side outside lock(outside lock still works from the passenger side and from the lock pannel in the interior) any ideas?

Thanks,
Leo

driver door lock problems are often a result of broken wires in the harness bundle that goes from the door into the body.
general consensus is to pull it out and replace the broken wires. not fun.

storage box rattle can be a number of things.
they came from the factory with little rubber bumpers on the lid(s).
check to see if one or both are missing. most hardware stores and places like Lowes or Home depot will
probably have stick on silicone ones for cabinet doors that will work.

try gently tightening the mounting screws and any interior screws in the box.
the MK2 has a dozen or so, tightening them cured all the rattles in my MK2.
you can also use a little loctite blue or green or a tiny bit of silicone sealant on the threads to
keep them from loosening off

Thanks for the tips! I did tighten the screws on the back of the top lid and it seemed to cure the problem! As for the door i'll have to take the pannel off and have a look see.

I have been told the breaks are usually in the section between the door and the body.
I recall seeing a DIY write up somewhere shortly after I bought my MK2.
found it
