Power locks problem

Postby Bravo 5 » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:37 am

I have a 91 NA with power locks. When I push the driver side door lock open the passenger door lock will only unlock part way and not far enough to unlock the door. It locks fine but won't unlock all the way. When I use my alarm same thing... the driver side opens no problem but the passenger side won't. I can't even push the passenger door lock open... it feels like it's jammed part way open. Again... it locks fine.

The door will not open with the key. The power locks may or may not be factory installed, I'm really not sure.

Anyone have any ideas?? If someone has dealt with this problem and needed parts could you please provide the part number.

Thanks in advance.

I know that many people have twitchy power locks due to the common problem of the door wiring looms being worn out.

Yours sounds more like a mechanical problem though.

Ya, it sounds like something is binding. You are going to have to take the door panel off and take a look around.

problem hard to diagnose if you can't open the doors to get into the panel...

might just need lubrication in the lock mechanism. but I agree with russ and joe, gota see whats inside. I wouldnt be suprised if a couple sprays of brake clean, then white lithium spray on it solves the issue. does it stop and go no further even if you hold the switch?

You can still remove the trim around the door handle, or get to it with a slim jim.

Didn't you just have an issue w/ the power door locks getting stuck after your recent Damplifier Pro sound deadener install under the door panel? This sounds like an extension of that problem.

Ya it's still happening. But I don't think the sound deadener has anything to do with it as we have checked it and double checked it.
