Happy Ho's

It's not what you think.

I took my seats to Happy Ho's Upholstery in Langley to have my black cloth 91-93 driver seat repaired. The foam in the side and bottom bolsters had broken down like most LHD MR2 driver seats have. The side bolster had what felt like a cord just underneath the outside fabric. What it actually is is the foam lining having deteriorated over time and rolling itself into sorta like a string or cord... and that's what you feel on the outside. The bottom bolster form just breaks down and needs to be replaced. I also had the seat bottom relined to make it firm again.

I'm pretty happy with his work after I told him I wanted this seat to look like factory new. This place is a good option if you can't make it out to Ambassador in Burnaby.

A lot of our seats could use this due to the age of our originals.

Yeah, that's about the going rate give or take. He did a good job.

I recently got mine re-upholstered for about $250 for both, was tough finding someone that went that low though. The trade-off was only minor additional cushioning, would have cost much more for new cushioning.

$250 for both seats is REALLY cheap. Was that for your leather seats? As you know Pete I was looking for mint cloth seats for over a year... so paying $300 to have the foam re-done wasn't an issue for me!

Yeah, it was very cheap - no one would go lower. I normally don't skimp but I decided to this one time. I went with cloth, but he said he could do leather for about a thou - which is sill very good.

These are your old ones Dan! Still got 'em for summer.

$250 complete with all new cloth :? Holy that is suuuper cheap. So we all know, where did you go? Maybe I should have gone there too. I don't think I have ever seen anyone re-do cloth seats before. It always seems to be leather. They look great... they have a sorta MKI retro feel to them with the grey middle insert. And the leather ones look good too! That's alot of conditioner on them!!

Sorry to hijack your thread, Dan - didn't mean to.

Yeah, it was ridiculously cheap; two seats done with brand new automotive grade cloth in two shades for $250. I reupholstered my Supercharger seats the same way, similar but not exactly like the stock '85 N/A seats - it's kind of a tribute to both my old AW11s. 8)

The man's name is Rick Miller of Miller Upholstery in Langley, 778.549.1130. He's been doing it for 25 years and works out of his home with a spacious backyard/garage area for trucks & whatnot, but I dropped my seats off since I have spares. I know he didn't particularly like working on my seats; he told me they were complicated. So going forward he might not quote the same price he gave me. But even if he went to $300, it's still a bargain.

I doubt it. But it's only foam padding so it can be replaced with anything. It's not like you can see it anyways.

The seat covers both leather and fabric are definitely discontinued.

Damn, and he's in Langley too. I should have made a thread about looking for an upholsterer in the Langley. I found Happy Ho's in the phone book after nothing really good came up on Google for auto upholstery in Langley. Could have saved myself some more money!

And you didn't hijack anything. We're all talking about car upholstery here.

Happy Ho's does seem to do good work, the Honda dealer in Langley uses him for their work or at least they did years ago when I was working there.

Just a heads up, want to be honest.

I'm starting to think the 'automotive grade cloth' i was sold on by Rick may not be true. I'm probably being overly picky, but I've noticed some light fraying and slight wear on the left corner of the seat where my calf rubs as I enter the car. And it's only been 4 months! My original seats didn't have that even after 20 years. Guess you get what you pay for... I'll switch over to my leather seats for Spring/Summer and think about what to do.
