Body glue, filler and more....

Postby MR2WSN » Wed Jun 22, 2005 10:03 pm

Hi all,

I have 2 rear quarters. When I've touched them up (using a welder and a bit of scrap metal), they will be ready to go on as a veneer.

The old rusty metal will get cut out, then rust treated, then primed (maybe), then the glue slopped on and the veneer applied.

Glue avoids rivits and all the body work involved with that. Only need to worry about the "edge" and welding the inner-fender together (no artistic work needed there!). :D

Question is:
a) what glue is good to use?
b) where can I get it, and about how much should I expect to spend?
c) is there any reading material around on how to do a decent job of application?
d) any suggestions on how to keep the panels from slipping while the glue sets (turning car on side is too much work!). :)
e) what body filler is best to use to clean up the parting lines? Haynes book looks like they recommend a plastic-type, but there must be something quite good.
f) I am assuming priming them after they are mounted is probably best

These panels go from the driver door, right to the rear light including from the ground to the parting line above the door handle.

Thanks, Don
