Rattling Noise: Hope it's not expensive

Postby MR2_Jester » Thu Aug 06, 2015 8:55 pm

Hey guys, I'm kinda freaking out here. I was out torquing around pretty good tonight with the 2 and now I'm noticing a slight rattle coming from the engine. Only happens for about a second or two when I accelerate or rev the engine. Car's a 91 JDM Turbo. Anyone had this before?

It could be many things. It could be a spun bearing, but that would likely get a lot worse quickly and there's not much you can do about it. I assume that you've checked your oil level recently and it's still near full?

But the noise didn't happen a month ago, it happened tonight. How is the oil level tonight?

Just checked oil this morning, it was pretty well bone dry! :S Topped it up, the sound is still there and I've noticed it gets louder as the rpms go up

Sounds like you probably did spin a bearing.

That's an engine rebuild (or replacement). The price can vary wildly, so you will have to ask around.

I think Dalton was in the neighbourhood of $4k and him and his father did all the labour with the exception of machining.
