Just getting some discussion going. What clutch do you have and what do you think of it??

So far I've been using the ACT TM1-HDSS,

Recommendation: Recommended for street and race use
Engagement: A low to moderate pedal feel; smooth engagement with stock to low gear rattle
Part Number:TM1-HDS
Description:HD/Perf Street Sprun
Torque Capacity (ft/lbs.):390Torque
Increase Over O.E.:32%SFI:N/A
Disc Type:Street Disc
Spline Count:21
Spline Size (in.):1-1/8
Disc Diameter (in.):9.3
Disc Diameter (mm.):236
Pressure Plate Type:Heavy Duty
Product Weight (lbs.):14.7

Feel
A low to moderate pedal feel; smooth engagement with stock to low gear rattle
Life
Longer clutch life achieved through ACT's exclusive diaphragm design
Quality
Premium organic friction materials for heat tolerance, faster recovery from overheating and prevents warping of mating surfaces
Recommended Use
Recommended for street and race use
ACT Difference
All ACT pressure plates are dynamically computer balanced for smooth operation at high RPM

It's been a pretty decent clutch overall, but the pedal pressure (with the turbo clutch pedal, yes it's different because it has helper springs) is considerably higher than stock. It's not unmanageable, but it definitely takes the fun out of driving in traffic. The only downside, as it's a significant downside is that after 3 summers of driving the throw out bearing is failing. Actually, it was failing all of last summer as well. That's shitty because it requires removal of the transmission, which means I might as well look at replacing the clutch and flywheel friction surface (I have a fidanza LWFW).

From personal experience I have had nothing but premature failures from act.

I personally recommend the oem over all others.
Obvious down sides is it's holding strength and fiction material for hot launches.

One trick I recommend is balancing the flywheel with the pressure plate.

Normally I would agree that an OEM clutch would be the way to go, but with all the extra torque that I have, and my desire to use as much of it as I can on a regular basis, I don't think the OEM clutch would last too long.

Where can you get a flywheel & PP balanced around here?

Has anyone tried anything else? Clutchmasters? Southbend? Excedy? OS Gilken? Spec? Centerforce?

I have a Spec stage 3 clutch. Love the quick shifting. Seems to hold the power pretty well on aggressive driving as well.

I had/have the same act as you. Broken tabs as well on the old one. If new one goes any time soon I will go with their upgraded pressure plate (one that's rated to like 500ft lbs but uses the same friction plate.

Sorry Russ, I did buy an AISIN unit that I never ended up using, I can't comment on anything other than OEM.
