EMSPowered intake install Q

Postby eternal » Fri Nov 02, 2012 8:44 pm

Curious if anyone else has this kit and has installed it?

Basically it replaces the intake box and piping to the turbo, which I guess is cool, but it doesn't include any kind of bracket. Should I figure something out in that regard or let it swing free like it seems EMS suggests to do?

Car is 93 turbo, no related mods so far.

Here is the product page at EMS website, I'll be using the stock AFM.

Under no circumstances can it be unsupported. As if the filter touches anything it will wear a hole.

I just fixed a filter set up the other day. And the filter was damaged from touching.

Have to send pic later

Thanks Cam, I'd rather do it right the first time then go through a big hassle after the fact when something goes wrong.

And I ordered it from twosrus, who I checked had it in stock beforehand. I've never dealt with EMS, but after reading so much I knew I didn't want to rely on something that wasn't available to ship the next day. Shame too, lots of their products seem pretty good.

This is what happens if the filter element touches

What material would you guys recommend for making a brace for this guy? I've seen pics of the apexi power intake, which has 2 or 3 braces and seems fairly straight forward, so I'll probably run with a similar design.

Pic for reference:

If I'm having a lot of luck, maybe even making some kind of shroud like that if I can swing it. Or is that chunk just there for looks?

I believe it's there to prevent water from dripping onto the filter, and you can also say it keeps hot air out.
