Transmission Shifter Cables

Postby emmanusaurus » Sat Apr 21, 2012 2:29 am

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to the community and my knowledge about the car can be considered at a noob level too.
Hopefully you can help me fix my dear 1985.

The other night, I was running on 3rd, as I was about to switch on 4th it just suddenly popped and can't get it out of 3rd gear anymore.

Any ideas & tips please and how to fix it?

A step by step would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the forward/back shifter cable snapped.

I don't think anyone has written up a DIY, but basically you will have to take the center console apart to get to the cables (there are two). Follow those cables into the engine bay to where they meet at the transmission and remove the broken one and replace it.
