bogging at high rpm

Postby edmkev » Sat Aug 06, 2011 11:21 am

i have a bogging problem, but mine seems to be in higher rpm range
have a rhd late 92 turbo mr2 with exhaust, non recirculating HKS SSQ3 bov and
i had my mechanic just recently make me an intake, he ripped out quite a bit
of stock stuff, and attatched a cone filter straight to the afm(shitty cone planning to replace it with
apexi power intake) but i noticed when i was cruising with my buddies 91 mr2 and he would beat me, because
come 3500-4500 rpm it would start to bog and i couldnt push down on the throttle without it bogging harder,
so i would have to let up on the gas then slowly accelerate. This only happens from time to time? sometimes
she'll pull strong through all gears no bog no hesitation.
im clueless but i think its got something to do with a possible intake manifold leak(i suspect i might have a small leak)
or im just hitting full boost too quick (before 5000rpm) and i dunno wont let me give her more juice?
my cold idle is around 2000 rpm and low idle 1300 ( im told this is alot higher then usual)
please, any insight, tips, thoughts, would be appreciated

As posted on viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8440

sorry i was at work kinda in a rush, the bogging was not present before the bov and intake.

Was I not under the impression that you said in the last post the bogging wasn't present before the air intake and BOV ?
Would that not make you believe the problem is related to the air filter install or the BOV install or something disturbed during the installs.

As well you made mention about fuel filter and ign wires, ign cap, ign rotor and not knowing the condition or age. All these things are VERY important to high RPM High load situations.

Boost leak is going to 95% of the times cause a constant lack of boost problem and very rare to cause intermittent problem. Or a below normal boost level because of the obvious leak.
As well very difficult to diag with out a proper aftermarket boost gauge to measure real time numbers.

my cold idle is around 2000 rpm and low idle 1300 ( im told this is alot higher then usual)

As for idle speed you might want to this thread and the details I left for diag

cheers

With out having a air fuel reading while the car is bogging it makes it even harder to diag.

My personal experience I would put the stock bov on and see if that resolves the issue.

Beyond that verify plugs and gap, age of plug wires , cap, rotor, fuel filter. As well visual inspection of engine and body grounds.
If the problem continues then a fuel pump output test and pressure during bogging is required as well what the air/ fuel is at bogging. To see if the issue is lack of fuel or timing as well possible knock system malfunction

One question would be how as the AFM unplug when the airfilter was attached ?
Where the screws on the connector ever loosened
