Another MR2 off the road... :(

Postby duy- » Sat Dec 08, 2012 12:17 am

tell the adjuster you want to repair it yourself,
let them write the car off as 'salvage' and have the car towed to your house to you can begin repairing it. they will give you the write off *6000 - 500? salvage* so around 5000 at least. then just don't fix it... it's still legally yours, and you got the cash for it. you're not technically buying it back, but yes you're not allowed to buy back

MR2's just a car ... and those will always be replaceable. Glad you two are fine.

Maybe this will open a new opportunity for another vehicle into the family. Best of luck with it! And ICBC better not mess around with you or they can go F-themselves.

That's painful to look at.. :(

The rear doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, but the front.. man.

doesn't look too bad, front fenders got pinched. maybe motion can supply you with a new front cut

Hood looks sorta intact, but if not duncan can probably spare you his black hood for that fake CF looks

Yeah, that's hard to look at, especially knowing it's not coming back. I agree w/ Thomas, that appears much worse than described. It looks very expensive to fix, I can see why it's considered a write-off. IMO, it's not worth fixing up at this point - easier to locate a low mile sample in accident-free condition than it is to restore this one. RIP

I wonder how it is behind the front bumper. Imo you can save this mr2 if you want, it doesn't look too bad to me.

The rear is an easy fix but the front will need a bit more work. It is fixable.

Fixable, yes, but it is worth it? I think I'd side with Pete on this one, there's still quite a few good cars out there if you're patient. That said, there is still a lot of good parts on this car, and if you were to part it out, I'm sure that you would make money.

Part it out.

If you're patient you will get more money for the parts on that car given their excellent condition and quality than it will be worth after its done.

Also, I would guess that if you sink thousands into it and fix it to its previous standards, the cost of repair will be higher than the value of the car web you're done.

Ouch! That hurts my eyes to look at. Glad you two are okay.

Did the airbag go off?

Why don't you buy this one and swap your parts over. Aside from the cloth interior, the car is almost identical with the existing mods.

Get Wayne/Wing(?) to do the work and maybe Dan might not even notice it is a different car...lol
I actually don't know what his proper name is.

That would probably be an expensive idea. Especially since that CL listing has coil-overs on it, and I'd bet that some of the suspension on Gary's ex-car has been compromised. I'd take the insurance money and run, just like I did w/ my H/T (except I ran to a sunroof turbo :P ).

Yea... it's unlikely I'll be doing any rebuilding since I don't have the time nor the expertise.

If someone is interested in buying the wreck to part, send me a PM and I'll see what I can negotiate with ICBC. You'll have to tow it directly from their yard though.
