New Mr2 owner

Postby slammedfc » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:27 am

Hey guys,
Just traded my ae86 corolla for this mr2!
its a 90 turbo Rhd.
mod list that i know of:
Tein Coils
Enkei 17" wheels
ct26 turbo
ssqv bov
afc neo
carbon hood and engine cover
probably more but i cant think of it.

anyways im from calgary(originally from BC) but couldnt find a decent forum out this way.
so the car apparently had the timing belt tensioner fall off and lost the timing belt. i have to put a new belt on and install a tensioner and hope she runs. they had the motor out of the car so i have to give it a once over aswell. any insights to the timing belt job?

with the motor out the timing belt should be pretty easy. Since you're at it a water pump is probably a good idea, and with the motor out, now would be a prime time to replace the hose from hell and the hose from hell on earth. They are both small rubber hoses that run coolant to and from the oil cooler. Look for them underneath the oil filter, they have insulation wrapped around them.

They are possible, but it's a pain in the ass.

If anything, just cut the old hoses off and then put a few drops of coolant or water on the new hoses to slide over metal lines. The new hoses are cheap.
There is the beyond.ca forum out of calgary with a dedicated MR2 section under car communites. There are several mr2 owners and parts always being sold.
Get the BGB to help you out. There are a few website that have it on pfd. file.
Good luck.
