Red Line Shockproof Lightweight source

Postby thelaw604 » Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:23 am

Well, after changing the shifter bushings, checking the square bushings, using MT-90 tranny fluid (thanks Joe for your help), my transmission still grinds a bit in 2nd and 3rd gear.

After reading on MR2OC and how everyone swears by the Red Line Shockproof, I'd thought I would give it a try.

Anyone know where I can find some at a reasonable price locally?

I am talking about this one.

Thanks!

Order it in at KMS Tools. Not only does BCMR2 have a discount there, but it is one of the cheapest places to get RedLine products.

Not sure if just changing the oil will fix your problem?
sounds like you have worn Syncros and other internal parts.
Oil will not mask severly worn syncros.

Maybe you should think about another tranny

yeah, i mentioned that to him, the fluid a bandaid fix so it won't completely remove the problem. These 91 tranny are old and notorious for their notchyness

Yea I understand.

It will be a temporary solution (if it is a solution at all) until I can muster up the funds and find a new tranny (maybe next year, or the year after).

Thanks, I'll look into KMS.

Lordco carries it also but it is $21 per bottle with the discount. I wish i knew KMS carried it, i would have gone there.
I noticed a difference right away, i tried a GM synchromesh mix, then castrol and then royal purple but still had issues.
Red Line FTW.

What's the discount at KMS tools?

Is there someone I need to look for there or do I just mention BCMR2?

I don't know what the discount is. Matt set it up a while ago. Just tell them your a BCMR2 club member when you are at the till and see what happens.

Just an update for those that are looking for this.

KMS doesn't seem to have it on the shelf and need to order it in.
Lordco charges $25 (without discount) as mentioned above.
Mopac has lots on the shelf and charges $13.51 per bottle (I assume 1 quart bottles).

So it looks like I'll be making a trip out to Langley! Thanks for everyone that offered suggestions.

Unfortunately, I didn't bother asking since I already got it at Mopac. Try giving them a call.
