Well.. she finally gave up on me.

Postby PearlWhiteMR2 » Sun May 02, 2010 8:26 pm

My beloved '2 blew her head gasket today. I guess it was only a matter of time, but I'm so proud that she made it 19 years and 346000kms on a stock gasket. Now it's parked for an indefinite amount of time, I will slowly work on it and replace parts. Good thing I bought the '85 MR2, I'm really thanking myself for making such a good decision. It's too bad she couldn't wait another week until I had it aircared and the exhaust on, but I suppose she's just had enough. I'm still happy to say that besides that issue, before this happened, she was still boosting strong and running beautifully, so I've still got a strong, healthy engine under that mess of coolant and oil. By the way, no coolant mixed with oil, it was just the oil all over the engine I was referring to from the leak someplace (which will also now get to be fixed hooray!).

So, here's to you Pearl, you gave me 46000 wonderful yet difficult kilometers, and 300000 to others before me, you deserve a nice vacation and refresh. :D

Sorry to hear that, Sarah. We were all hoping it would make it a little longer, like to the end of summer. Guess we'll have to cancel our vid shoot. Was a good decision betting on the MK1. Hope your plan to keep the SW20 and make it healthy again doesn't take too long. You're going to have to update your sig now! :P

That is a shame it had it go now. I'm sure there's plenty of guys ready to help you fix it. Enjoy your mk1 for now, and hopefully you can replace the headgasket soon.

It's more than likely going to be a long project, I don't want to throw it back together and drive it. I'd rather buy parts for it as I can afford them and fix it all up nice. There's just so much I've wanted to do and I always said "when I take it off the road", well here's my golden opportunity as I no longer need to rely on it for daily driving. At least it got me this far without too much headache.

* Trumpets * playing in the background as a BCMR2 flag is raised up the flag pole and flutters in the wind at half mast.

We all salute you MR2 and hope you one day recover from your mortal wounds

I will document everything.

Thank you for the trumpet salute, Russ! I'm sure she appreciates it :)

I poured water into her and got underneath and it make actually be a burst hose and not the head gasket, but I'm still leaning towards head gasket. Either way it's going to be replaced and rebuilt, but it would be sort of funny if it's still actually ok and just needs a hose done. :P

It's the HG. I just replaced the HFH last summer so there's no way it would have been that, but thanks for the suggestion!
